Traverse City: Downtown is compact, but every peninsula, winery, and dune outing is a separate driving day. Do not treat them as neighborhood stops. Save the Commons, Dennos Museum, Great Lakes Children’s Museum, Music House Museum, and a City Opera House performance for rain or winter.

Milwaukee: Do not combine the zoo, Bay View, the lakefront, and a Deer District event in one day. Milwaukee is compact in parts, but A good zones deserve their own time. Treat the lakefront as weather-dependent. Wind and cold can make a short walk feel like a bad call even when the forecast looks mild.
